Mammut - ‘Bird Mammut’
I’ve always been reluctant to blog. After setting up around eight different, inevitably vapid accounts over the last seven years, I have been taken under the WARM+SCRATCHY wing and I’m ready to spend my unemployed days writing arbitrary wordings for you.
So here, for my first proper W+S post, let me tell you about my favourite forgotten German LP. Mammut literally are amazing. I feel in love with them back in 2006 when I segued into them via the critically acclaimed Germanians Can. Their 1971, self titled debut reflects on the expansive Hard Psych period of the late sixties whilst retaining a very visceral rock edge that is frequently lost amongst their contemporaries (roll on the Krautrock).
You can’t really find the album ANYWHERE, but here is the opening track Bird Mammut, which is effectively a hallucinatory successor to The Incredible Bongo Band’s Apache. Go explore the web and I’m sure you can find some more.
