Swung From The Branches
Foxes In Fiction
![]()
This debut album from Foxes In Fiction (Warren Hildebrand) has just been reissued by Moodgadget Records (it was previously only available on a self-released cassette), and it’s lovely stuff.
The first few tracks gently welcome and absorb you into a blissed out state, with waves of sustained guitar chords and tape hiss. It’s not until the 5th track, ‘Coffee Cups That Wont Break Down’ that a beat is introduced, as well as a soft reverb drenched vocal line, that drifts behind the sparse drum hits.
‘8 29 91’ is a highlight for me, the addition of a lengthy sampled monologue really works well with the atmospheric backing.
The second half of the album tends to lean towards more structured, guitar based songs. When Hildebrand adds vocals to the mix, it has echoes of Bradford Cox’s Atlas Sound. Especially on tracks like ‘5-HTP’ and ‘Memory Pools’.
With a running time of over 70 minutes ‘Swung From Branches’ is a super long album, and at times can feel so, but each track adds to the vibe and sets you up for the next.
It’s a mood piece, and what a great mood I’m in.
‘Swung From The Branches’ is out now. Stream the whole album over at Moodgadget.
